Our Story
Founded in 2017 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, Payless was born from a simple observation: millions of people across East Africa struggle with unreliable utility access and opaque billing systems.
We set out to change that by combining smart metering technology with mobile money — the payment method already used by millions. Our prepaid meters put consumers in control: you buy what you need, when you need it, from your phone.
Today, Payless serves over 120,000 customers across 5 countries, with more than 150,000 smart meters deployed. Our platform processes over 2 million mobile money transactions, connecting households, businesses, and utilities to a smarter, fairer infrastructure.
